Part one of documenting a personal project rebuild, something I haven’t been able to prioritise for a goodly while around here. Nothing too fancy, but a ground up rebuild and some functional and aesthetic mods should see this ECM giotto classic scrub up nicely. Part one entails stripping back to bare chassis, descale everything, make a bunch of holes in the chassis for new features, blast away the rust and strengthen the frame (forgot I can’t weld, but remembered I can braze!), and finally fit cartridge heating and temperature probe to the group. More to come. #coffeemachinist

Tricksy repair on Justin’s Olympia Club steam valve, where the thin wall brass around the tap seal had snapped off. Turned and brazed on a copper sleeve to replace it. Standard stuff on vintage rebuilds where parts are not to be found, fun but time consuming! #coffeemachinist

The underbelly. The two red displays are the group cap heaters, running cooler than the brew boiler internal temperature on the right but keeping each group locked down.
