Why should I choose The Coffee Machinist?
I’m a perfectionist – I also love what I do. I want your equipment to work better than ever, so you can enjoy it to it’s full potential.
What sort of equipment can you service?
Most high quality traditional espresso machines (those that have a group handle or portafilter with a basket for ground coffee, which then gets locked in for brewing), as well as espresso coffee grinders. This includes commercial and domestic equipment. Unfortunately I am unable to assist with ‘superautomatic’ machines such as those from Saeco, Delonghi, Krups and Jura etc, as well as Sunbeam and Breville appliances. There are also some italian brands which are either defunct or don’t have a local distributor, for which parts sourcing is becoming increasingly difficult. I can usually advise on whether a repair will be straight forward or too time consuming / costly if you can tell me the make, model and nature of the problem.
What are your standard rates?
Labour is charged at $55 per half-hour including GST. Domestic servicing and minor repairs will generally fall between one and one and a half hours of labour plus parts. For example, a service and tune-up of a domestic E61 heat-exchanger machine would be around $240 if you dropped it off and picked it up.
Do you do on-site servicing/repairs?
If I know what equipment you have, and I’ve got the necessary parts on hand to solve the problem, sometimes an on-site service call is the best way to go. There is a $90 call-out fee for addresses within a 20 km radius of Melbourne CBD, further afield can be arranged at additional cost.
What is your standard turn-around time?
Most jobs dropped off at the workshop are completed within 48 hrs. Generally the only delay is sourcing parts that are not normally stocked. I will always advise you if any delays are anticipated, and I do my very best to get your equipment back to you quickly. It’s in both our interest, and I know it’s not easy being without good espresso at home.
Can you help me improve my coffee?
Definitely! I’d be happy to advise you about ways to get the best out of your machine and diagnose any problems you’re having. While I’m not a barista, I know what goes into preparing great espresso and have a broad range of experience with different equipment. Often when something’s not working right, the answer can be very simple!
What are your payment terms?
I accept cash, on site EFT via mobile banking or credit card (Visa/MasterCard with chip and pin) for private customers, terms are strictly COD.
Do you fix fully automatic machines?
Unfortunately not – in my experience they are not economically viable to repair as other costly components are likely to fail in future once the machine is a few years old. I’ll happily put you in touch with someone local who will though!
Do you buy/sell equipment?
Only very occasionally, my focus is on equipment service rather than sales. If you’ve got something interesting to sell, by all means ask me though. Likewise I can offer advice on any equipment purchases and point you in the right direction for your requirements.
